Christingle Service

Posted by: Will | Comments (0)

This year Rochford Community Church will again be running a 1 hour Christingle Service as a way to start the season of Christmas in a really positive way. This will be a fun and interactive time that is suitable for the whole family. If you’re not sure what a Christingle is here is a section from Wikipedia:

One Christmas time back in 1747 in the estate of Marienborn near Eckhartshausen in Germany, Pastor Johannes de Watteville sat at home in front of his fire. He was thinking how he could explain the love of Jesus, and what Christmas really meant to the children in the church. He decided to prepare a simple symbol to help make the message of Christmas fresh and lively for them. Pastor Johannes de Watteville gave each child a lighted candle wrapped in a red ribbon, with a prayer that said “Lord Jesus, kindle a flame in these dear children’s hearts”. This was the first ever Christingle service.

The Christingle consists of:
•    an orange representing the world with
•    a red ribbon around it representing the blood of Jesus (i.e. his death on the cross for our sins, in our place)
•    fruits and sweets (commonly dolly mixtures) are skewered on 4 cocktail sticks which are pushed into the orange representing the fruits of the earth and the four seasons
•    a lighted candle is pushed into the centre of the orange representing Jesus Christ, the light of the world.

We’ll all have the opportunity of making a Christingle that you can take home at the end of the morning. Children love it and their attention is kept for the whole service.

The service starts at 10:30 (please feel free to come earlier for a coffee)
We meet at The Freigh House in Rochford click here to find us.

We had a great night on Saturday at St.Marks Hall for the Pizza and singstar event.  In 2 teams we battled it out to see who could become the most accurate and scor the most points. With each round scoring an average of 6000 points and with 14 rounds played we were amazed to find that we there was only 1500 points in it with one round to play. There was a winning team but everyone who came along was in good spirits and a great night was had by all.

As you can see we had plenty of food to keep us going!

Just a bit of pizza then!

You are invited to an evening with pizza and karaoke at St. Marks Hall, Rochford on 28th Feb 2009 at 6pm.

All the family evenings we have are a real laugh and fortunately talent isn’t a necessity, just the ability to have fun with a good bunch of people.

The evening starts at 6pm and goes on until 8pm. This time we are using a playstation with the singstar software with a big screen and large sound system. There is a huge song selection to choose from and will include Disney favourites & high school musical for the kids (and some uf us adults) as well some songs that will be know by, shall i say, some of us older ones!

Rochford Community Church Family Fun Day

Posted by: Will | Comments (0)

Last Sunday we saw the culmination of the rainy month of August for the DayTripping excursions we have been running for the Church and community groups alike.

The Family fun day was held at the Freigh House in Rochford and is where we meet as a church. Given the weather over August we decided that an indoor venue would be the best idea. On the day it was hot but it predictably it did rain!

Fun at the Freight House

The Great eastern room at the Freight House was packed all afternoon and it was great to so many people there. On arrival there was a flyer for people to begin to know who we are and why we do what we do. If you would like to see this then please download it here.

The end of the day gave those who helped an opportunity to have a go. The day could not have happened so so to those involved, Thank you!

This is how WE do it!

Saturday Family Breakfast

Posted by: Will | Comments (1)

Last Saturday was the monthly family breakfast at St. Marks Hall.  Liz and Geoff head this up with a fantastic team of people. This last one i was asked to come and cook for the morning. Full English anyone!!!  After breakfast the games begin and as usual there is a healthy sense of competition. It’s all good fun and very well natured.

This year the numbers have been quite high with about 30 breakfasts being made so the atmosphere is always good with this many people.  Now for a saturday morning’s fun; 50p is not a bad price! Why do it? Well the reason is simple. Let’s bring family and community together, have some food and enjoy each other’s company. Simple i know but it has never disappointed in being a great time.
